a bank induced resesion caused by high rates, all of us caught, the state and the government and what do we loose, jobs, and here is the winner "the banks". who would of guessed it?

I've been out of work since October - no unemployment compensation - living off savings that will soon be gone. The lady next door moved out suddenly with her two young sons. We just found out the reason is that she lost her job and can no longer afford the rent so she has moved the family in with her boyfriend.

With the price of gas being what it is, we can barely afford to leave the house except out of absolute necessity - consolidating trips to save a buck here and there.

The depression is all around us and close to home. Wake up people. In the global economy in which we live there are a billion Chinese people and nearly the same number of people in India competing for our jobs and our commodities.

Is there any end in sight or is this just the way it's going to be...

I suspect your neck of the woods is a little later being affected. "Some" people have been talking openly here in Michigan for a couple of years (not everyone because some are affected more than others and some still aren't comfortable with the reality). I knew things were different the month I looked out my front door and realized that of the four houses I could see, three of the men had lost their jobs. Letting go of my own house is just a matter of time...

I stopped worrying about comments a long time ago. It's the same as being worried about what other people think. I'll continue to write/do what I want, when I want, because I do it for me not because I require a mirror. That said, conversation is nice especially when another person contributes or builds on an existing idea in a post. I bet if you have readers reading and not commenting, they are in agreement with your points and don't feel they have anything to add! :)

Well said! If they're funny, keep it up. I guess it all boils down to, pay attention to your audience if you're a comedian. If they're not laughing, cool it for a while before you pop another one out. Don't keep trying over and over because you'll wear your audience out and they'll soon tune you out.

For me, I don't mind if people are rolling jokes off the tip of their tongue like there's no tomorrow. That is, I don't mind them if I find them funny. If I don't find them funny, then it just gets annoying and awkward.

Unfortunately it always starts with mowing the grass first. It slowly gets worse after that... leaf blowing, sidewalk sweeping, fertilizing, watering, the list is endless. These OCD neighbors just get progressively worse all the time. IT'S GRASS PEOPLE! Not a big deal!

I have a neighbour who mows his lawn every few days ... it's maddening because I moved here for the peace and quiet and he was working then ... he is now retired and obviously has no life. My alternative hypothesis is that this guy has spent a lifetime overestimating 'his size' and it now translates into thinking the grass is much longer than it actually is.

Well said! The only time I see full shopping carts these days is when welfare cheques come out. Go into any store the last wednesday of the month and see how much busier it is. Soon the Government will be cutting them back too. Lets not forget to mention the government now telling us we have to save for our retirement because there will be no more CPP. Will they refund what we have already put into it?

Yep, same with me - OCD neighbor. Nothing else to do in the whole wide world except spray chemicals and mow. So depressing to think this is what life amounts to for so many people.. Gooberdom.

The weird pride that arises from such a manifestation of abnormality makes one ponder the realities of human nature.

Oh, and because a few squirrels dig some thimble-sized holes, he traps them and kills them. Why not, right? I mean, no additional life should exist within his property lines except for the hyper-chemmed blades of grass and his drunk carcass.

Playing Keno in the casinos is very entertaining...and I do notice some numbers hit more often. The problem is they don't all hit together. Because the machine or program knows what we're playing, this is a tremendous edge. If the casinos were really confident with the randomness, we could pick numbers without the software knowing what we played. I can dream, can't I.

I was listening to JJJ radio is Aus a couple of years ago and they were talking about this very subject. A person, who refused to give his name, rang in as he was an electrical design engineer whos job it was to not only design new technologies but to also design them to fail after either a certain time frame or amount of uses. He said that he and his colleagues were instructed to design flaws into the devices so that people had to buy new every couple of years otherwise the companies would not make money if their devices lasted too long. A lot of energy and greenhouse 'heat' could be saved if manufacturers (who use more power then any of us!) would produce longer lasting devices so that they didn't have to use as much power to run their businesses as they wouldn't need to produce as many units constantly. I realise there are other issues here of employment and such like but it is food for thought. A way around these design flaws is to always take the extended 3 year warranty!!

It seems like a sound idea, but somewhere down the line something would have to convert the 120VAC coming into your home into 12VDC, thus still wasting energy on the conversion. The only way to have non-wasteful DC outlets would be to have power plants dedicated to generating DC current, and the issue with that is DC power suffers from severe voltage drop over a much shorter distance than AC current. That's one reason we adopted Tesla's AC over Edison's DC at the beginning of the 1900s.

Funny you should mention this, because 2 weeks ago we spent 8 hours waiting to see a doctor.

This is a hospital in a very high populated area and i'm pretty sure they only had one doctor on staff to cover emergency.

There's another simple thing they could do to speed up admissions.

See a doctor/nurse immediately and have any BLOOD TESTS done right after seeing him.

I can't tell you how many times we have gone to emergency, waited 3 hours to see a doctor, only to have him order blood tests that require you to wait another hour for the results, then even more time waiting for the doctor to deal with the results of the tests.

I am so sick off seeing how the Canadian healthcare system is in trouble, when in fact it's not. It's being run by lazy nurses who care more about how you interfere with their work day than anything else.

I was at one desk to ask a question of a nurse and she sat there and had a conversation with another nurse for 3 minutes before she acknowledged my presence.

What hospitals need is mystery shopper type patients, who can identify the problems and the problem staff and have it dealt with.

Man I could rant for hours and hours at the stupidity I've seen in hospitals, but the crux of the problem is bad nurses.

Too often a job in the Canadian medical system means you've got it made in the shade and there's nothing you can do to get fired.

Nothing like waiting 4 hours to see a doctor who sees you for ten minutes. Makes you wonder just what exactly they are doing with their time.

The intake process is flawed.

Graduated Licensing is a feel good about doing nothing program.

here's what it does:

Generates 10 times more revenue for the same thing
that we used to get for one fee.

It's a knee jerk response to teens driving like idiots and getting themselves killed.

Politicians all stand around saying "we have to do something right?"

In the reality it's an idiotic system.

In some cases they make you start right at the beginning with learners permit AFTER you've been driving by yourself for years.
